Howdy folks!  Danny here. As the 2001 Draconia Calendar rolled on with its "Elements" theme, we made sure to include Wind, in accordance with the classic quartet of Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. And, thus, here we have Aeris, a wind dragon. Aeris bears the distinction of being the first dragon shown in actual flight.  The closest I'd come to it up until this one was with Elektra, who appeared earlier in the calendar, and was the first one drawn for the 2001 edition.  I didn't count Elektra as being in flight, as the idea was to show her just hovering with her lightning element lifting her up.  With Aeris, though, the idea was to show her in actual flight. Wind dragons did not make the cut into what is today's Draconia Chronicles webcomic.  Instead, the wind element has become an extension of the power wielded by Fire dragons, whereby they manipulate the ambient heat in the air to steer it as needed (see page 123). And, yeah, it came out looking pretty shoddy.  This was the last drawing done for this edition, and I was hard-up against the deadline.  In fact, I would go so far as to say that this is easily the worst drawing to ever see the light of day in a Draconia Chronicles calendar. In fact, the image you see here is substantially doctored.  For starters, she was flipped from left to right, largely because, if I hadn't, too many of the characters would've been facing  the same direction.  Her orientation was also pretty skewy, so she was rotated significantly from the original line art--about 35° clockwise after the flip. That rotation created a situation where there was no more line art in the upper left, leaving her wing incomplete.  The remainder of the line work there was hastily constructed using a rather rudimentary knowledge of what Photoshop could do, along with a standard computer mouse. And I didn't notice until after it went to print that I forgot to flip the background to match.  Thus, you see some bits of the cloud that are incomplete, as these were originally intended to be covered by the character. In fact, I hate this drawing so much, I'm not going to write anything more about it.  It's just that freakin' bad.  Next one's better, I promise.
